Today Ruffian showed at the tents. If you aren’t familiar with the label, you will be. The ensembles they show are definitely runway only, but take the pieces apart and you’ve really got something special for the street.
In the past, the collection has been more femme, and this season seems to be inspired by the school girl who adopts her rebellious biker boyfriend’s style. Nicole Phelps of Style.com calls the collection “the most youthful and imaginative to date.” But I’m going to have to disagree….
When fashion is taking a turn for the chic and sophisticated, why go hipster now. And not only hipster but black and white hipster, no color at all!
In their previous collections, they incorporated bold colors and plenty of femme details that made the sophisticated woman dare to be edgy (see dress below).
Photo above is final – supposed to be the best – look from the show worn by Agyness Deyn. Skinny jeans, loving that they are still in, a great coat, bow I could do without, bleached hair ain’t happenin (but that’s the model), overall as a final look…disappointing.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the pieces, but was not impressed by the show’s vision. I feel like you could have gone to the Lower East Side and found the same outfits (however not nearly the same quality). As a label, love it, will continue to stick with it, but today’s show did not exhibit something I had never seen before or that inspired me to incorporate it into my current style (mostly because I already do….with the exception of the private school pleated mini, I’ve got legs to show, but so many better ways to display them. To me school girl anything shouts fuck me, and I don’t see it necessary to ever scream that…unless you are in the privacy of your own bedroom with the man you dearly love :)
