Carolina Herrera showed a collection inspired by a luxurious countryside lifestyle. Unlike other designers who have claimed the same motivation, the equestrian theme was delightfully inferred instead of thrown in your face with leather patches, riding hats, and hunter green. Instead, Herrera used “oatmeal brown, china blue, lemon-drop yellow” (which to me looked like mustard) and a pale burnt orange to lighten up the neutrals. The colors were a welcome change from the other lines who have been exhibiting black, white, grey, and khaki (like that is new). And while the pieces were made of masculine materials, they were accented with floral chiffon and fur to add femininity.
The hats by Albertas Swanepoel were the icing on the cake and tied in the the music beautifully.
