Head to Toe: Julia’s Time Out Shoot

February 22nd, 2008 No Comments

I’ve gotten a few emails about this outfit I created for Julia’s Time Out shoot.

The idea was to have three looks: glam, girl next door no makeup, and sophisticated.

For the sophisticated look, I got a Keith Lissner top to go with black trousers, and a Dolce and Gabanna suit.  But I went with this look because it has character.  It says sophisticated, strong, AND stylish.  This ensemble has attitude.  Which is something I think we should try to put into our ensembles on a daily basis. (I say try, because, sometimes I get it, you’re tired.)

The truth behind this outfit: it’s all from my closet. And I’ve worn it. It was never my intention to use it, but I always pull a few things from my closet for shoots, and I just couldn’t put this down.  Here’s the outline:

  1. Lanvinsheer buttondown with silk charmeuse trim
  2. Arden B satin sweetheart top underneath
  3. Plein Sudcotton/lycra gathered pencil skirt
  4. YSL Tribute Pumps
  5. Soho Gem Jewelry (not mine)

The top and the skirt, two pieces that would easily cost about $1500 combined, are from my Mom’s store, Encore!, a designer resale store.  Honestly, it’s my favorite shopping. Designer resale stores usually have lightly worn (if worn at all) high end labels at 1/3 of the cost.

I haven’t found any designer resale that I love in NYC, but in LA there is Decades and Decades 2.  Great selection, although still really pricey.  I found a great one in Darien, CT the other day called Roundabout.  You just really have to luck onto a good one. Lucky magazine usually finds some good ones.  For me, it’s the best way to designer shop!
