Delightful dinner last night at Casa Mono.
I love a good tapas restaurant, and I would have to say this one tops my previous “favorite” Mercat (on Bond and Bowery). Needless to say the service is better, but the flavors of the dishes are stronger, and the atmosphere is more welcoming. However, for bigger parties, I would suggest Mercat.
We didn’t have a reservation, so we headed to Bar Jamon, their small wine bar next door, to satisfy our overwhelming hunger with a nibble of prosciutto. Order your wine by the carafe or bottle, you won’t be disappointed. I don’t know much about Spanish wines, but I enjoyed the education!
The food was stellar as well. Flavorful and not too chewy, the razor clams were impressive, and the Ribeye was beyond delicious. NY Magazine hails them for their fresh veggies from Union Square Farmer’s Market, especially the brussel sprouts.
A perfect date place: amazing food, great wine selection, sophisticated but comfortable atmosphere, and not ridiculously expensive. Enjoy!
