I have gotten a lot of emails recently about how I keep my skin clear and applying makeup that looks dramatic without looking heavy.

As far as skin care goes, I have to be honest, I naturally have clear skin, so all I really have to do is maintain it. I wash my face in the morning, after I shower post-workout or applying more makeup from daytime to nighttime, and before bed.  You really need to understand your skin before buying product (drug store or designer brands).  I have pretty normal skin, but sensitive.  I use:

  • Neutrogena Visibly Even Foaming Cleanser [Drug Store = DS]
  • Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner (very important that it’s alcohol free) [DS]
  • Skin Ceuticals Serum 15 (Vitamin C), it works as an exfoliator [BS = beauty supply]
  • Skin Ceuticals Daily Defense SPF 20 (a quality sunscreen is really important because you don’t want it to clog your pores) [BS]
  • Oil of Olay Complete Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin [DS]

I’ve posted my makeup application before.  But here are the basics:

  1. Almay Clear Complexion Concealer on lids and under-eyes
  2. Almay Line Smoothing Foundation in Naked applied with sponge
  3. Mac Studio Fix Powder applied with brush (not sponge)
  4. Gently take off excess powder with a Kleenex and blend
  5. Click Eyes for specifics
  6. Cover Girl Instant Cheekbones
  7. Nude lipliner with colored gloss, I usually go with a nude, pale pink, or red. (DO NOT RUB LIPS TOGETHER), and topped off with Revlon lip gloss (clear) in Shine City (Still no rubbing or blotting!)

If you’re not really familiar with how to put on makeup or just looking for a new look, I suggest going to see a professional. I know, it’s hard to just walk in and trust someone, so try out a few different artists at your favorite lines.  Here’s a tip, for a natural look, don’t go to an artist at the Mac counter :)
