One of the career choices I respect most is nursing. They care for those who can’t take care of themselves, clean up all sorts of bodily fluids, stand on their feet all day, watch people they have worked on suffer (and sometimes die), all the while maintaining the patience of a saint. You would think we could make their scrubs at least tolerable for them to look at when they get dressed in the morning! I can’t even describe the pastel horror this woman across the bus from me is wearing. She works so hard AND has to tolerate patterns not even suitable for children’s wallpaper. Come on! They’re not asking for Chanel, just a basic color without dancing bears would be a step in the right direction. (Please note: I have not surveyed any nurses on this issue, I just feel like with such a difficult job that is definitely underappreciated, they should enjoy their scrubs.) At the end of the day, they don’t need stylish scrubs to save lives, but it might make them smile.
