To celebrate the end of Fashion Week, we went to Babbo for a hearty meal.
Babbo is one of my favorite spots in NYC, not to mention one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve every experienced in the States.
I usually order an appetizer, a ravioli, and the pork chop that is to die for. But on this particular occasion, I couldn’t resist the veal special: veal wrapped in pancetta with some sort of veggie/pepper thing that was divine. I shared it with a friend who ordered the parpadelle bolognese which is always good (and amazingly light). Top off the feast with a lovely Barolo and it was a meal fit for a king.
For dessert, everyone was shocked I had never tried the cheescake with maple sauce. Holy shit. Wow. Amazing. The special strawberry sorbet drissled with aged balsamic vinegar wasn’t far behind.
We were talking about why we love Babbo so much: it’s flavorful, traditional, and doesn’t try to over complicate the dishes. The preparation is evident and not overwhelming. It’s just simply fabulous.
