Finding the Perfect Fit — By Lori LaVentura
Why is it that men don’t always put in the extra time to find those perfect pair of jeans like women do? Baggy is out boys, so here’s a helpful guide to get your bottom half looking top notch.
A breakdown of cuts:
STRAIGHT: usually sits low at the waist and are straight through the leg with a straight leg opening. Looks best on men who carry most of their weight in their stomach.
BOOT CUT: slim through the leg and opens a bit wider at the leg opening. Looks good on all body types.
CARPENTER/WORKER: a loose/ comfortable fit with a wide leg opening able to accommodate boots. Only recommended for daytime errands, plane rides, and movies.
RELAXED/ LOOSE FIT: sits at the waist with a relaxed leg and a tapered leg opening. Looks best on men who how don’t really have much junk in the trunk.
SKINNY: Super trendy right now. These jeans are mostly stretch demin and hug every part of the leg. Looks best on the skinniest of men. No hangover guts please.
Obviously, you’re going to have actually go and try on the different styles to see which one really fits you best. Barney’s and Levi’s always have a good selection. You can’t go wrong with Diesel, and 7 for All Mankind has become popular for guys now too.
A few of my favorites are pictured above:
- DIESEL Pairon 0073M $300 (left).
- LEVIS Capital E Harrison Loose Jeans $138 (center – notice they still fit though)
- CUTTER & BUCK CLASSIC Five Pocket Jeans $70.
Lastly check out a new brand to hit the mainstream JET LAG. They are fashionable yet not too over the top for the everyday man. Right now they are on sale for under $150 on Zappos.com.
