“Cause We Care” July 2009 – AdoptAPet.com
By Alice Hunt
You all know Mason. But you wouldn’t without the generous donations and countless hours spent by those who support AdoptAPet.
This month MTM is featuring AdoptAPet Be-Cause We Care about the Mason dogs and Sadie cats out there who need and so desperately want to be rescued.
Did you know that the Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, and approximately 3-4 million are euthanized? While 68% of Americans are pet owners, less than 18% get their cats and dogs from shelters. Not only are you saving the life of your pet, but you’re helping to battle the puppy mill cycle of animal abuse.
Organizations such as AdoptaPet.com strive to help “shelters, humane societies, SPCAs, pet rescue groups, and pet adoption agencies advertise their homeless pets to adopters for free.” Through their easy-to-use website that catalogues animals from the majority of local shelters, you can find a place to not only rescue a pet, but also volunteer your time. This could involve organizing adoption events, grooming, playing with, feeding the animals or cleaning their cages.
Fostering is another great way to care for animals without having to commit to adoption.
