[Life: List’d] Random Weekend Getaways out of NYC

Ever have the urge to get out of the city for the weekend and do something random? I’ve been researching and compiling a list, and here’s what I have so far for affordable (and not so much) adventures within a reasonable distance from this big beautiful city.

Brandywine River in Chester County, PA
$25 per canoe per 2-3 hours
Paddle the Brandywine River and then relax at the 1732 Folke Stone B&B, a cozy joint with kick-ass original stone fireplaces.

Harry Packer Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Jim Thorpe, PA
$450-$650 per couple
An over-the-top murder mystery victorian bed & breakfast, where you role play a murder story all weekend, channeling your inner Agatha Christie. 2 hours from NYC.

Kayak tour of Shelter Island in Shelter Island, NY
$45 per person for the Kayak Tour that takes you through awesome inlets and waterways
Bonus: Once your done with the tour, grab fresh crab cakes at Planet Bliss then spend the night at the Olde Country Inn in the Heights, a Victorian B&B  that dates to 1886.

Gurney’s Inn in Montauk, NY
$300 per night + spa Services
Seaside spa with seaweed wraps, gourmet cuisine, and in the summer – all you can eat lobster bakes

The Villa at Saugerties in Ulster County, NY
$95 per night
Modern minimalistic mediterranean B&B, 2 hours from NYC, super quaint & romantic

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, New York
Take a fifteen-minute flyer over the Hudson Valley in a 1929 open-cockpit biplane or just watch an old-school air show.
Bonus: Shack up afterwards at Beekman Arms, the oldest B&B in America. So old, George Washington slept here!

Long Island Wine Country throughout Long Island, NY
$10-$15 per tasting (some free)
Think of it as a classy pub crawl as you journey from winery to winery
Note: Bring along a DD or make a reservation at a local B&B. Car makes it much easier, some inaccessible without.

Cucina Casalinga in Wilton, Connecticut (Inn in Westport)
$100-$150 for 3-4 hour authentic Tuscan and rustic Italian cooking classes
Stay at Inn at National Hall (Rooms –  currently 25% off through August 31)
Bonus – Inn has Miramar , a restaurant founded by the awesome Todd English!

Bare Boat Sailing in Newport, Rhode Island
$1,500+ per charter so get tons of friends on board
Bonus: This is a full weekend cruise and it will take you to Martha’s Vineyard, stopping overnight at Menemsha Basin, where Jackie O. used to summer.

Kate’s Lazy Meadow Motel in the Catskills (pictured above and #1 on my list!)
$150 + per night
Channel your inner B-52 (this joint is owned by one of them!) in these specialized cabins that boast private decks, “fantasy bathrooms,” and wet bars
Bonus: close to canoeing, fishing, hiking, antiquing, equally quirky restaurants

Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, Lenox, Massachusetts
$1,700 per person for 3 nights (so hit the lotto or dial up your Sugar Daddy)
Lap of luxury – spa, bike trails, salt baths, energy & enlightenment activities…
Bonus: they have special romantic packages for couples that sound amazing

Tubing on the Hudson River
$19.95 per person per tube,  can rent a cooler and booze it up
Note: This is a four-hour trip up the Thruway to the town of Lake Luzerne. Like many of these excursions, you need to rent/own a car.

What am I missing from my list? (Tumblr stopped letting me ask questions for some reason, so reblog or comment!)
