Trend Notes – Fall 2009
There is no question January Jones stole the carpet in her Atelier Versace gown (it’s about time! I’ve been waiting so patiently for her stylist to wow us.) Still in awe as you browsed the rest of the beauties, you probably overlooked Mary Louise Parker in Zac Posen.
First of all, I’d bet a Benjamin this dress looks more amazing in person, and this photograph doesn’t do it justice. And she looks great in it.
Finally, it’s exemplary of fall trends:
- 80’s (big bow)
- Deep purple
- One shoulder
- Sequin accents (Louboutin shoes)
I think one out of every two dresses had an asymmetrical neckline/one shoulder. Obviously it’s a popular trend that has been around for at least 3 seasons. And now that everyone has caught on, who wants to wear it? Well, ok, all of the fashionistas. So my suggestion for buying one-shouldered pieces is to make sure it makes sense for the design and isn’t just thrown on to make something trendy. That way your ensemble looks unique instead of cookie cutter.
