“Fashion is like Dessert: No matter how satisfied you are, there’s always room for a little treat.” — Nina Garcia, Fashion Director for Marie Clare
Although hesitant, I took Georgina’s Marie Claire magazine for the plane ride from NYC to LA. She insisted, “it’s gotten better.”
Indeed it has!
Nina Garcia has begun a style renovation for the glossy pages of this rag, and she’s succeeding with flying colors. In October’s shopping section, Garcia offers 101 ideas for fall trends at many different price points. Models dominate the pictorials, but their poses are whimiscal and approachable so you feel comfortable checking out the designer’s looks from head to toe.
Keep turning and you’ll come to a style section that explores Oscar de la Renta, Lagerfeld’s world of Chanel, and inspired makeup. She could talk about these topics from a lofty editor’s perch, but instead she offers you an unjaded, kid-in-a-candy-store perspective. It’s quite refreshing actually.
This is not to say that I still won’t pick up Elle for trend reports, but it does mean I’ll spend a few extra bucks to see what Nina is up to from time to time.
