STRONG SHOULDERS ARE A SEXY TREND YOU CAN FEEL FREE TO ROCK IN 2010
—By Brandon Trentham
It’s IMAN in an 80’s. I’m talking about DYNASTY to DISTURBIA. Take the padding out of your bra and throw it on top of your shoulders.
As we start this new decade with more of the past, it’s important that only CERTAIN trends see the light of day again (hhhhuuhhuuummm Zooba pants). Lord knows shoulder pads are back. Don’t lie, you’ve see them all over the runways and thought to yourself, “can I pull that off?” YEP! You can all rock the strong shoulder ladies.
I know many women hate this trend coming back, but I’m not against it. I think it’s flattering and slimming on most women. The extended shoulders make the waist appear smaller to create a HOT hourglass figure.
You have a lot of options with shoulder pads. Designers are using them to define many different pieces from winter coats to spring jackets to mini dresses. I appreciate the way some designers are mixing the old with the new, hence the shoulder padded mini skirt with thigh high boots. Along with this trend are old school materials like lace, leather, skins, furs, and faded jean. Mix and match it all for a funky 80’s feel that lets you rock out in Twenty Ten.
Still not convinced men will find this trend sexy? Ok, how about this logic.
Every STRAIGHT man loves seeing his girl or a sexy stranger in something that looks like it is hanging in his closet. Dunno why that is, but the over-sized shoulder pad look definitely falls into that category. I mean, there’s a reason the term “boyfriend” is so popular now.
As for me, I just need to find the girlfriend to wear my old sports coats. Milla Jovovich where you at?
