This isn’t a question, just an observation (also, I hope this doesn’t come off as rude, it’s not meant to) but I just wanted to say that as of late you seem to be bursting with happiness! You’re glowing in all your photos and you look so genuinely happy – no forced smiles, just in good company, doing fun things, and really enjoying yourself in Houston.THIS is the Mary I like to see (I can’t speak for everyone who reads here, but I do think that many would agree). It just seems like there’s a new lightness that has swept through your blog and I’m loving it!
A:That’s really sweet of you to say.
I will admit going back to the basics of blogging while MTM is under construction has taken a huge weight off of my shoulders. Now, whether I had put that weight there, or my readers did, or I thought my readers expected more, I can’t say. I think it was a little bit of everything. These are the thoughts of a perfectionist who just wants to make everyone happy. And at my ripe old age of 28, I realize I am included in “everyone.”
My life is a bit overwhelming for me right now for many reasons, but overall I am happier. And I want to thank everyone again for their patience while I make this transition with the blog. It was really difficult to hear that after all of the work we put into the last iteration that it wasn’t easy for you to navigate. My feeling is that the design and functionality was too ambitious for one person to manage. Writing the content, producing a web series, editing and managing contributors, pitching brands, reviewing product, and MY LIFE, well, it was just too much for one lady.
So, I’m sorting through all of it now, and really learning to enjoy life, work hard, and find time for myself.
A:Tootsies in Houston. I love them too! You can email my mom and she can send you more info. Terry@encorehouston.com She’s pulling double duty at her store and Tootsies these days!
BTW, Encore is having a 60% off sale right now!
Encore: 1852 Fountainview (between San Felipe and Westheimer) open Tues – Sat 10-6.
A:Well, you know, I just decided I was happy with the stuff I have. So my apartment is by no means “furninshed” for a few reasons: I really hate everything about interior decorating, I’d rather spend my money on other things, I’m rarely in my apartment, and it turns out I’m a huge commitment phob. After ridding myself of leases, a car, furniture, and a ton of clothes years ago to live in NYC, I realized I enjoyed living light. Don’t get me wrong, I could get a little choked up in cute home stores, but in general, I was always relieved not to need candle holders or even new stemware.
Ps: my living room!
Short story long, there’s not really much to show. I am however going to write a post about all of the great sites and blogs readers directed me to for decorating ideas. After seeing all of the pictures and loving every other aesthetic that popped up, I felt even more overwhelmed. Don’t ask me why color swatches and throw pillows make me nervous, they just do!
