Hunting for great finds on Craigslist is a bit like trolling the racks at Marshall’s. It takes hours, dedication, and an eye for the unusual to discover a treasure. You may leave empty handed OR what you do find will probably involve a little elbow grease to transform.
I am the first to admit that I am not the average CL shopper, but I absolutely believe that with a little inspiration, a lot of help from your friendly local hardware store and a good dose of elbow grease, anybody can create the aspirational style they so desire, minus the huge price tag!!
My headboard is the perfect example. I searched, I found, I purchased. Then the actual work began.
The first challenge was to learn how to cover that gold leaf without hours of sanding or a lot of money. Here is where your charm comes in handy—-go down to the hardware store and ASK!! Those guys at True Value would love to help you! Seriously!!
What I discovered was that all I needed to do was cover the existing finish with a good primer and then I could paint it however I liked!
I chose a flat white called Mascarpone AF-20 (I like the Low VOC Aura Line from Benjamin Moore) and went the extra mile and purchased a sprayer. I figured I could use it again in the future but if you don’t want to do that, a good foam roller and a small brush would have done just fine
A few coats of paint later and here is what I had! Total cost: $205, Impact: Priceless
