Finally sick of the foggy Los Angeles summer I decamped to the East Coast for a relaxing week at my summer cottage in the lakes area of Maine. Visiting this quaint cottage in the woods reminds me of how much I adore a bit of Kitsch. This place is replete with vintage finds, antique accidents and a bird collection that rocks!
This adorable desk has a fold down workspace and is brilliantly tucked into a niche in the kitchen next to a window with a beautiful view and the chimney. It was a perfect place to pen a postcard or two. Little desks are a great way to utilize odd spaces in older homes, here is a Drop Front Desk like my antique.
Our dining area in the kitchen is home to meals and wild Trivial Pursuit throw downs. This is due in large part to the picnic bench in leiu of chairs. It invites togetherness and no matter what. Unfortunately that means you can’t escape away crazy Uncle Richard!! This industrial version from Neiman Marcus is pretty close to mine and has a great reclaimed hard wood top.
You can’t help be overwhelmed by birds in my little cottage, but you know what, I love them all! This white porcelain rooster with orange patterned lampshade dated back to around 1968. If you’re looking for something similar because you love fowl too, check out this one at Bellacor.
I savior every warm moment in front of this fireplace on cold mornings. Plus it has so much meaning for me. My mom painted the watercolor over the fireplace, my rock collection from the 5th grade has pride of place on the mantle top, and Grandma’s pewter plates finish it off. In the Underwood house, we always take family mementos very seriously.
