Arrrg…I pushed it too hard tonight and pulled out my back.

For those of you who haven’t been reading for a year or so, there are two things you should know: I love to exercise, but I have a very weak and sensitive lower back.  I always emphasize form to be safe.

Tonight, doing burpies (a tortuous cardio exercise to get your heart rate up), I pulled something in my glut which effected my back and whole leg.  I should have stopped at 18 reps, but I went to 25.  Now I’m paying the price.

I NEVER do movements that put stress on my lower back, but sometimes it just decides it doesn’t want to participate?  I don’t know what’s going on, but my whole right side now hurts like a beeeatch.

Only thing to do is apply ice, take a couple advil, and pray the pain subsides during the night.

The lesson here:

Of course you want to push yourself, but there are parts of you that have limitations.

You know your body.  Listen to it.

(Taking my own advice as I type.)

  • After 2 ruptured and one torn disc in my lower back and doctors and cortisone, the miracle cure for me was an inversion table. Felt better after the first time, and in 2 weeks my lower back felt bullet proof for the first time in a long time.
