For the past 3 days I’ve been at the “South By Southwest” Conference in Austin, Texas. Basically, the purpose is for “indie” film, music, and interactive people to come together, pitch their work, and hear from the leaders in their respective industries.
Like with any other conference, it’s all about networking in the right places. As a third year veteran, I can tell you, it’s a crap shoot in terms of landing in the right panel or party. Obviously there are a few reliable venues: Mashable, Fast Company, CNN, Bing, etc.
Small content creators (bloggers, personalities, startups, publishers) who come all have the question: how can I make money online?
The answer is now very simple: money and technology. Luck and right-place-right-time-helps, but it’s all about the numbers now.
As for me, I come here to see colleagues and stay relevant in my business. Thankfully, I have been at the cutting edge so I can stay connected if I maintain my relationships. Conferences like CES and SXSW allow me to do that while living out of the loop.
If I’m being totally honest, my favorite part is rocking out to the bands. Thus far I’ve loved @zeale @austinbrown @walkofftheearth. Videos and reviews to follow.
Needless to say I’ve been a busy girl which is why I’ve been MIA on the blog. But you can always keep up with me on twitter @MaryRambin (which is the easiest) or Facebook or tumblr where I post more candid shots and comments on the fly.
Later this week, I’ll post my conclusion on the conference and a new guide to Austin.
