Help! Which dress should I wear?!

May 15th, 2012 14 Comments

This weekend is Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu’s wedding at Becca Cason Thrash’s house and I have NOTHING to wear!!! I realize those names mean nothing to most of you, but let me put it this way, it’s the Houston event of the year.

Back in the day when I lived in NYC or LA, getting a dress at the last minute was easy because I could just call a showroom and have a few delivered.  Well, those days are LONG gone.  I would call local designer David Peck, whose designs I adore for their style and price, but I heard through the grapevine (aka my Mom) that the entire city bought at least one at his Tootsies trunk show.

Thankfully I, you, we all now have RentTheRunway at our disposal!

Last night I browsed through their selection of gowns (the wedding is black tie) and found two I like.  My absolute favorite was unavailable, but I love these for their classic silhouettes and bold color.

I’m leaning towards the first one – it’s a little more me while the second is a little more Julia. I guess it will come down to fit.  Thankfully they send 2 sizes.

But I want to hear what you think! If you would be so kind to leave your thoughts in the comments, I would greatly appreciate it!!

(Full disclosure: RTR is generously sending me the dresses for free in exchange for an honest video review. I’ve never tried the service before.  It seems like the dress will be wearable, but I’m hoping for amazing and not total disappointment.)

I would go with the first one. Beautiful and such a cut and color :)

  • I would definitely go with the first one!

    • Kaitlyn I like the tag line for your tumblr! Thanks for your note:)

  • Kim

    Still loving the first one!

If you want a guy’s perspective, the first one is definitely more you and I like the cut of the back. 2nd one is pretty but too stiff.

    • I always welcome a guy’s perspective! And you’re right, first one is definitely more me :)

I would go with the second one with a chic collar necklace it would look awesome. I have ordered 2 Robert Rodriguez gowns in the past (one that cost like 800) and I was sooooo disappointed at the jersey quality of the gown, I had sent both back, they also run alittle big. Havent purchased from him since. Although RTR is GREAT. Ive had dresses sent to a different city and they were waiting for me at the hotel. :) :) :)

    Love the first one!

I think you should rock the first one!

You can’t go wrong because you are gorgeous, but I do really love the 1st! Miss you!!

Go with the first — the color is better for you, and you will be able to dance in it and it won’t slip off.

And please report back on everything… the food, the guests, the mood of the reception. I think it’s great that Texans are so open minded about the whole thing!

Have fun — it sounds as if it is going to be a total blowout, and I am sure the bride will be beautiful.

  • I’d love to be @ a wedding and see you in that first one (the RR Black Label) and flirt. .. The second one, I don’t think I’d feel as flirty.

  • Manuela

    Definetly the first one :)

Okay Mary — which dress did you choose? Was it a fun wedding? Have only seen a few pics and did not (really) see any amazing dresses — other than the bride’s, which looked amazing. Looked like an older crowd, but that might have been only for ceremony.

    Was it fun?
