Mary Rambin Nameplate Necklace 2015

Last week I posted this pic on Facebook to share my post about a new 3D mascara and all of your comments were questions about my necklace!

The beautiful and delicate nameplate necklace is a design by Ana Corporan of Brevity Jewelry.  Leven gave one them to all of her bridesmaids before her wedding.

Brevity Jewelry Custom Signature Nameplate Gift

My super-trendy hipster sister wears hers everywhere so we had all been fans of it for a while.

With a quick visit to Ana’s website, I found out you choose from one of their fonts or customize the signature with your own writing!  You can also write a message instead of a name.  Pricing starts at $195 depending on what kind of metal you want (stainless steel, silver, gold, etc).  Click here to explore your options.

It’s the PERFECT gift for someone special – your friend or spouse you’ve already bought everything else.

The “LOW” Leather Leggings That Keep Up With “HIGH” Fashion

November 17th, 2015 No Comments
Club Monaco Leather Leggings
For years now leather leggings have been a winter essential.  Why have they not made their way into my closet:  they’re so damn expensive! For the $1k price tag I want something that fits like a Saint Laurent stiletto: comfortable, snug, and sexy. This year I resolved to hunt down a pair and hand over my card happily.  After weeks of shopping, I had tried the standard J Brand, Rag & Bone, Vince, Helmut Lang, and a handful of boutique designers.  None of their cuts fit my chicken legs and tiny ass.  Even my Intermix stylist was shocked.
It wasn’t until I was browsing for work clothes in Club Monaco (my vote for conservative chic corporate attire) that I stumbled upon this front panel leather and spandex combo.  When I first saw them I thought to myself, “Those are cheap….and totally cheating.  I want the real deal.”  Then I saw the price tag…. “Well, for $99 on sale, it wouldn’t hurt to try them on.”
Club Monoco Leather Leggings 2015 Mary Rambin

I actually love the way the panel cuts in and gives my legs more definition.  The spandex is just what I needed to hug my barely-there bum!

For 1/10th of the price I now have an edgy, sophisticated pair of “leather” leggings I love MORE than anything I tried from the contemporary powerhouse brands.  People stop me and ask if they’re IRO or Rag, when I tell them faux by Club Monoco, fashionista jaws drop.

High Low Leather Head to Toe:

UPDATE: YOU LOVE THEM TOO!

A summer shopping list for the boys + discount code

June 16th, 2015 No Comments

For some reason, men have trouble dressing for casual activities.  They take “casual” to mean “anything goes.”  Sigh. Beach days, in particular, came to mind today.  If men only knew how sexy a simple t paired with a nice pair of swim trunks looked, I don’t think they’d mind wearing the outfit for a few hours before we rip it off later.

The issue I think lies in that when men think “outfit” they think “uncomfortable”  and “expensive.” IF THEY ONLY KNEW how tight our skinny jeans really are!!!

Below are 4 brands you can shop that your man will love and look amazing wearing this summer.  And , they won’t cost either of you a fortune.

The Basic T

The rules of cut off shorts

June 2nd, 2015 No Comments

At the ripe old age of 33, I feel like I’m too old and have become too conservative to wear cut off jean shorts of the super-short, ripped-to-shreds, pocket-hanging-out variety. Totally ridiculous, especially since I live in a beach town and I’m a stone’s throw away from West Hollywood where anything goes.

I think it’s time I lighten up!

@PeaceLoveShea (“a global talent and fashion influencer” per her website) has become one of my favorite fashionistas to follow on instagram,  I don’t really care what she does for a living, but I love living and dressing vicariously through her.

She exemplifies how this trend should be worn.

RULES TO ROCK THIS TREND

  1. Loose-fitting top

  2. Flat shoes

A few other examples from IG.

One thing you need to watch out for are the high-waisted shorts.  They look good from the front, just don’t take the tags off until you make sure they look good from the back.  I have a severe case of pancake butt in anything high waisted.  These two below pull it off beautifully.

Don’t stress about Dad

May 27th, 2015 No Comments

I think the reason we stress out about shopping for Dad is because we don’t fully understand the things they really enjoy in life.
Hence I reach out to my go-to “guy” who is corporate but not too conservative, stylish without being flashy, Southern but not a cowboy, enjoys all sports and plays golf. A very well-rounded, happily married father of two. In other words, he seemingly fits the bill for every man in some way.

Below we have come up with a gift guide for you that hopefully takes the stress out of your thoughtfulness :)

A more affordable option to the Big Green Egg: The Weber Smoker Grill

No fire pit? No problem. This Light ‘n Go Bonfire lights up anywhere.

His weekend watch has to be durable and cheap, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish.  Timex has totally rebranded and has plenty of attractive styles like this one to choose from.

Oversized board shorts belong in the trash. It’s time for your man to show a little leg too!

We love Saturdays because they’re well made, unique, and the price point is perfect!

It’s come to my attention that women now dominate choosing the restaurant. So, on Dad’s day, find the biggest and best new burger in town and take him to devour it!

RAREFORM backpacks and totes are made from recycled billboards so they’re all one-of-a-kind and super durable. Again, starting at $50, totally affordable.

For the hubby who likes to host: honeyboards are also one-of-a-kind.

If you’re still on the hunt, hit up TouchOfModern, my favorite website for stylish accessories, chic furniture, and awesome gadgets. And, it’s all on sale :)

Flat-tastic

May 26th, 2015 No Comments

It’s the season of flats and by the looks of the shoe floor at Bergdorf’s, anything goes!

Below a few eye-catchers from my last trip to NYC.

Christian Louboutin

Nicholas Kirkwood

Schouler

Aquatalia

Givenchy

Charlotte Olympia

Celine

Celine

Chanel

Chanel

Tom Ford

Gianvito Rossi

You know me, most days I’ll be running around in these, but I am on the lookout for a new sandal to spice up my life.  The main requirement: ankle strap. Since I’ve started wearing sandals with straps, I’ll never wear another flip flop or slide again. It’s so much easier to walk when your toes don’t have to hold on to the shoe!

Reflecting on your sunglasses style

May 19th, 2015 No Comments

If you’ve been with me for a while, you know I’m a proven sunglasses whore.  I would hate to tally my running total on designer frames.  After the past two years of shopping at Selima et Benjamin in the Brentwood Country Mart, I’m embarrassed to realize that most of that money I spent previously went towards flashy brands like Chanel, Gucci, or Tom Ford instead of well-made frames and lenses sold by brands like Salt, Benjamin, Dita, Tavat, Randolph Engineering, Thome Brown, to name a few.

The other thing I love about the boutique, owned and operated by local Cindi Montoya and her sunglasses-designer husband Benjamin, is that their collection is always on trend (if not ahead) AND secures designers’ exclusives.

So what better place to explore some of the summer’s best trends for us to adopt?!

Wham, GLAM, Thank you Thierry Lasry.

Theirry Lasry

Thierry Lasry is like the Tom Ford of the sunglasses world, a trend in himself. He creates “elite-looking” frames for women that make even a mommy trucking around soccer gear feel sexy.  Every woman on the westside owns at least one pair.   His oversized cat-eye is fabulous, and the acetate which comes in bright translucent hues, striking opaque colors, two-toned ombre, and multi-colored tortoise make them the statement piece of your outfit.  Thankfully as flashy as they are, you won’t see a brand in sight.  You’ll know them by their  signature metal temples, the latest of which is matte as seen on his biggest fan, Anne Hathaway below.

Anne Hathaway in Theirry Lasry

Prices start at $435.  Buy them at Selima, certain Intermix stores, and online at ShopBop or EyeGoodies

I bought my mamma a pair for her birthday!

#InstaCool

A little pop of reflective color goes along way, ladies who love Lulu.

Wildfox is like the instant solution to updating your outfit.

In one pair, you can combine any of the popular trends you want:

Thick acetate
Reflective
Cateye
Wayfarer
Aviator
Bright colors

I love the Catfarer pair I bought above because it takes my very plain workout wear to being fun and funky.

Their whole collection is that way, so hit up Wildfox.com and shop around.  Prices start around $160.

Along with Beyonce and Alessandra Ambrosia, my sister is a huge fan.

Trendy, Tactful, and Timeless

Salt Summer 2015

Salt, started by 8 guys from Oliver Peoples, delivers a variety of trendy designs in a much more subtle way.  You’ll pay more for them and wear them for a lot longer than a pair of Wildfox.  All of their lenses are polarized.  I adore the Odin avaitors I’m wearing in the opening shot of this post.

Other trendy options you should try:

Round metal frames by brands like Ralph Lauren, Benjamin, and Wildfox. You can find some great vintage ones too.

Not many people will tell you to get heavier, but when it comes to Jacque Marie Marge, that’s his schtick right now.  The French designer turned LA local only distributes his frames to a few retailers, so if you find a pair, grab them.  Otherwise, many other popular designers are going heavier on the frame.

Celine New Pretty Sunglasses

I’m sure you’ve already seen the cross-bar on these Celine frames (which Cindi is usually sold out). Now you’ll notice that little connecter everywhere.  Historically on an aviator or a throwback style, the cross-bar has befriended the hipsters and subsequently the fashionistas.  Like the thicker acetate above, you’ll either love it or hate it.
