Renee Herlocker and Mary Rambin with hair on top of their head

…Women who look super cute wearing their hair on top of their head.  Doesn’t Renee and all of her long hair tied up look adorable…and sexy, all at the same time?!  It’s such an “easy, breezy” look as my friend Kim would say.  It’s a little grunge and a little glamor all in one bun. It’s the PERFECT post-workout do!

After years of trying to twist my hair into the bun, I thought I was incapable of achieving the look. But as you can see, I can do it, even with my short, thin hair.  Thanks to Renee Herlocker, a sports and social personality I met on twitter and contacted for coffee (which turned into SoulCycle and smoothies) when I moved out to LA.  As you’ll see in her hair tutorial, she’s amazingly cute.  I can’t wait to hang out with her more when I get back.

I keep telling people they should reach out to new people on social media.  What’s the worst that can happen?  They say, “No thanks.”  Big deal.  The best part about it is you make a new friend or contacts.  I met my BFF Sarah for the first time when she introduced herself as a tumbr reader at a concert.  That night changed my life!

I digress.  Fun hair, cute girl.  Watch the video!

You can find Renee on twitter, facebook, instagram, etc @ReneeHerlocker.

Time to get your butt in bikini shape

April 1st, 2013 3 Comments

If you haven’t already been sunbathing over spring break :)

In this video I show you 4 exercises other than your basic squats and lunges that you can do to tone up your glutes.  Reader Anne wrote in and said that squats and lunges cause pain in her knees, and she would love to know glute exercises that didn’t.  Between my trainers and a physical therapist, we came up with these 4 that are great at isolating your glutes.

You can do them with or without weights.  As I am trying to build up a little muscle back there, I use heavier weights:  10-20 lbs.  I also have to be mindful of my lower back which inhibits me from going heavier, but you can!

Also check out this squat-row combo  and this video for more ways to tone up your glutes.

Finally, I have to apologize for the production value of this video. The girl who helped me was so sweet to shoot it, but it didn’t come out the way I had hoped.  As the years pass somehow it’s getting harder to find people to help me shoot these things…..

My method to beat the anxiety of getting dressed for an event.

September 25th, 2012 4 Comments

Over the years so many of you have come to me for advise on getting dressed for events, in particular reunions and weddings.  The biggest obstacle being choosing a dress within your budget.  To make this video, I teamed up with your best resource for designer dresses on a budget:  RentTheRunway There still seems to be a barrier to order due to the size factor, but that’s why they send you two sizes.

What’s next, you ask?  In this video I offer you a checklist to make sure you have everything you need.

When looking for makeup artists and stylists in your city, I have two suggestions: referrals from friends and recommendations from the sales associates on the designer level of clothing stores.  They send their biggest spenders to the best, and they’ll be happy to do the same for you if you simply ask.  You can also check my list of contacts hereThe Dry Bar will give you a great blowout for $35 or $65 for an up-do. If you’d like to refer your stylist, please leave their contact info in the comments below.  Your stylist and MTM readers would greatly appreciate it!

As always, I’m always happy to help you personally if you have specific questions.  Simply email me mary@morethanmary.com.

A Tour of My Suite At The Capella Pedregal – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

November 28th, 2010

A week ago today I was leaving The Capella Pedregal in Cabo, obviously against my will :)  As promised, here is a tour of the suite I enjoyed (immensely) for 4 days.

When you see the ocean, it’s relatively calm.  The waves are usually a lot bigger.  In fact, the current is so strong, they don’t allow swimming on this part of the beach.  The wind at night can get pretty chilly too.

Just so you know, all of the rooms have ocean views, the big tub, a plunge pool, and fire pit.  Rates for a standard room start at $499.

My official review to come next week.

(Full Disclosure: The Capella generously comped airfare and accommodations in exchange for a review.)

The video version of Mount Pedegral – Cabo

November 21st, 2010

This video gives you a good idea of just how big Cabo is.  From my spot here, you can really only see half.  The other part is hidden behind the hill at 10 o’clock.

What’s up with Harrison Ford?

November 18th, 2010

Woke up this morning LMAO to Harrison Ford looking like a complete weirdo talking with Conan.

It’s moments like this I hate not having live tv and love tumblr.

This is more than a morning chuckle.  LOL before you go to work.  You’ve got to watch until HF flaps his arms like a chicken talking about his flying hobby.  And notice how he keeps rubbing down the couch…what’s his deal. Too funny!

Younger men are at risk too. Educate yourself!

November 15th, 2010

Men, did you know that you can develop prostate cancer in your 30’s?!

Take a few mintues to hear my friend Gabe’s story.  He found out he had it at 35 BY ACCIDENT!

Since then, he’s been actively trying to bring awareness to young men. He’s started a facebook page, speaks publically, and writes articles in hope that younger men will get tested.

Most recently he wrote this piece for The Huffington Post calling on the NFL to bring attention to prostate cancer like they did for breast cancer.
