Speaking of Essie

August 9th, 2011 2 Comments

Here are Essie’s three new color collections for fall: Carry On, Dive Bar, Cocktail Bling.

I think I’ll be hitting Cocktail Bling first and then moving on to Carry On when it actually gets cold.

OPI v. Essie

April 23rd, 2010 No Comments

Dear Sarah,

A couple weeks ago you posted the question about Essie and OPI polish, which one is better?

We all toss around this question, and I’ve finally concluded that the durability of your manicure has more to do with who, not even where, but which which lady gives you the service.

My last one from Lucy (at B&B Nails on 30th and Lex) has been my go-to gal in NYC for three years. In fact, I usually take a can straight from JFK to see her – she’s that good (and always booked so you need an appointment).

Her manis always last 8 days. Then I start peeling away (see above). Otherwise, I get about 5 days.

Of course the polish matters, but I think the manicurist is even more important. And, it doesn’t have to be super expensive. A mani-pedi from Lucy is $35.

And…she’s good at picking the right color combo for your skin tone.

Go check her out!

Hope this helps.

The warm weather is coming and I know you are as excited as I am to put the boots to the back of the closet and bring out your sandal wedges.

After some serious exfoliation, which colors will accent your little piggies this spring? Here’s a rundown of the classics, trends, and my personal favorites:

  • You can’t go wrong with classic red
  • A french mani or pedi always looks fresh and clean
  • Navy Blue (OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue) seems to be leading the trend right now, but I prefer lighter colors for the warm weather.  OPI’s collection was inspired by India (but I prefer more classic shades)
  • For your fingers: OPI Passion, Essie Mademoiselle, Essie Adore-a-ball, Essie one coat Adore-a-ball one coat East Hamptons Cottage, OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga (summer only)
  • For your toes, I like whites and pearlized whites and pinks: OPI (embarrassing but I can’t remember the exact name!! It has Queensland in it, and very tough to find), Essie East Hamptons cottage, OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga, definitely more options here, just don’t get something that looks like White Out
  • Some women can pull off bright pinks, but I can’t help but think of Barbies and the 80’s.
