Screw the glue. A new way to make your lashes fabulous.

November 10th, 2015 No Comments

I studied makeup application in high school and college, and I still can’t put fake lashes on myself.  Even when I have an artist apply them, they look a little too….Tammy Faye for my personal taste.

So, recently, when I was approached to test, review, and purchase (which is highly unusual) a new mascara system that promised dramatic lashes, I threw down the $30 for Younique’s 3D Moonstruck Fiber lashes.

The application is a three step process using two tubes.  First, you coat your lashes in the very lightweight black gel; then gently add black fibers from the second tube; finally, you lock them down with the gel.

I’ve been using Younique for months now because I wanted to make sure I really LOVED the effect before I passed it on to you.  The fibers were weird to work with the first couple of times.  Now I’m pro and love the dramatic look for going out at night and special events!

The pics here are from my sister’s wedding. I used my favorite Jouer cosmetics for a natural look and little pop from the fiber lashes.  A close up for ya here:

Long time no see readers :)

May 18th, 2015 No Comments

Hello to my very loyal MTM readers, thanks for sticking around!  After a 5 month hiatus while I started a new venture (read about that below), I’m looking forward to writing and sharing my experiences with you again.

Before I get going, I want to step back for a second….I’ve been blogging since 2006.  So much has happened in the space since then. To give you an idea, I’ve been taking selfies since before the word selfie existed.  The first iPhone hadn’t hit the market yet. (Can you even think back to your life without a smart phone?!)  Tumblr had just launched.  Facebook was so foreign to me I had my intern running my page.   Instagram wasn’t even in conception.  I was the first person to ever livestream New York Fashion Week…I could go on, but you get the idea…Now all of that is integrated into our everyday lives.

I’m looking forward to posting in this new blogosphere, but I’m gonna lay it out au natural.  Kinda the theme of my 30s living the casual life in Santa Monica.  You won’t be scrolling down pages of professional photography to glamorize my life (how I wish I had time for that).  As you have for 6 years on MTM, you’ll read about pieces of my life, products I love, places I go, genuine feelings I have…and see it all through the lens of my iPhone. That picture above is me right now writing to you!

My hope has always been that you’ll find my tips and tricks helpful.  Very simply just that.

If you have any questions, you can reach me at Mary@MoreThanMary.com.  For updates on new posts, I don’t do newsletters, so follow me on Instagram and Pinterst @MaryRambin.

Gotta run now, roasting up some brussels sprouts for dinner later. See you tomorrow!

My essential makeup on sale

October 10th, 2014 No Comments

My favorite makeup line is having a sale!!  I love the brand because they make a quality product in shades and weights I can wear everyday.

Make sure to snag these essentials that are great for fall.  Truth be told, I wear them all year round.

Follow them @jouercosmetics on Instagram.  They’re a fun addition to my feed :)

(Full disclosure: I work with Jouer Cosmetics because I love the brand.  They send me samples of their new products and my favorites…when I ask nicely :))

Sun screen with style

Mary Rambin 2013

I’ve got three layers going on in this photo:

I give the Tavat glasses two nods: one for the glasses and the second for the technology inside them.

Tavat Riviera Sunglasses

Tavat developed a synthetic melanin (our body’s natural defense to UV and HEV) to infuse into their lenses for extra eye protection.    We really can’t argue with MORE protection from the sun, especially when it comes in such a stylish package!

Maison Michel hat

Hats are effective as well.  That being said, unless it’s cute, you won’t see me caught dead in a hat.

The M hat is from JustOneEye where my fabulous friend Andy works.  He says they can’t keep them in stock, and I know why! All of the styles have their own character yet seem to go with everything.  And cover up unruly hair :)

Everyone wants to know about this jacket

April 13th, 2013 1 Comment

Mary Rambin leather jacket

I’ll admit for the price it was quite a find!

It’s BCBG $368 from Saks, although I’m sure they sold it at many department stores. Reader Wilde found it online at Saks if you want it.  A friend of mine mistook it for Rick Owens, and every time I wear it someone always says, “that’s a fabulous piece” like I paid a bundle for it.

In comparison to the other $700+ leather jackets around it on the floor, I liked it the most.  The reason I believe it’s less expensive is because the shell is strips of leather on top of a spandex blend fabric.  I love it because it’s thin and stretchy (great for my big shoulders), not clunky like most leather jackets.  The collar has the ability to stand up a little.

What I love about it is that it goes with EVERYTHING AND raises the game of my preppy outfits to have a cool factor they didn’t before.  I bought a white bomber jacket that does the same thing.  I wear it mostly with my workout clothes to be honest.  You know me, always in my spandex!

As for the rest of my head to toe:
